A Lotta of Oaks are Dying…

Last weekend I attended the memorial service for my Uncle Dave. My dad’s brother, one of twelve children, only one more surviving. As Sherry and I drove to Va. Beach I noticed a whole lot of hardwood trees had fallen, particularly oak trees. Our conversations centered on how we thought they were the strongest, sturdiest of the hardwoods and that they would always be standing, but now they seem to be falling – all across NC and VA. What’s going on?

I correlated it with my uncle’s death and realized that large, strong family members of our heritage were now going by way of the grave. They were the pre baby boomers with limited material resources but whose values made America strong and also passed down strong faith to their descendants. It raised a question, how will we, with unlimited material resources, but much smaller family size carry on?
